“Mary” is a senior citizen with arthritis living in Craven county. The Healthy Homes Initiative program helped make her home safer by installing handrails on her front stairs and in her bathtub. Mary is extremely thankful. “I rubbed the color off my sleeve trying to get up and down those steps, but now I get up them so much easier.”
Twana's Story
"Twana" is a single mom with a young daughter living in Carteret county. Following the recent death of her mother, she inherited and moved into her mother’s house. She suffers with asthma, and her daughter has many allergies. She suspected that the old carpet in her home had mold as it was old and dirty. New vinyl flooring was installed in the home. Twana says “The house is so much cleaner and brighter with the new floors. I am so excited, and motivated to make my home special for my daughter.”
We are grateful to have a sponsor like BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina who invests in our communities, and so proud to have Coastal Community Action as part of our network! We couldn’t do this important work without them and their dedicated staff!
