“John” suffered a stroke and could not get safely into his home. The Healthy Homes Initiative funds were used to make a new deck and stairs so he could safely enter and exit his home. John is grateful for the help this worked provided him. “This is great for someone with as bad a back and legs as me. I appreciate it so much!”

Trinity and Dom's Story

“Trinity” and “Dom” are a senior couple in New Hanover county who suffer from Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, Cancer and stroke. Their carpet was old and needed to be replaced. The Healthy Homes Initiative funding was used to rip out the old carpet and install new laminate wood floors. After the job was complete, Dom said, “We are eternally grateful for the new floors. My wife has COPD and the carpet was so full of germs. It is much safer for her now in our home.”

We are grateful to have a sponsor like BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina who invests in our communities, and so proud to have Coastal Community Action as part of our network! We couldn’t do this important work without them and their dedicated staff!
