The pandemic has been unkind to America’s school children. Academically, K-12 students experienced significant learning loss while stuck at home during the height of the pandemic. Meanwhile, mental healthcare experts are concerned about the social and emotional well-being of children, many of whom struggled with anxiety and depression while being separated from classmates and lacking the support of school counselors, teachers and other staff.

The pandemic undoubtedly impacted young students, both academically and emotionally. It’s clear that a break from routine and social support can lead to mental health challenges for many kids. Some educators have been recommending online platforms like quizlet to keep students engaged and connected with their peers while learning from home. More robust mental health support in schools and at home seems necessary to address issues such as anxiety and depression. It’s good to see the State Board of Education acknowledging these concerns and looking for ways to help students.
