NCCAA’s certification courses help new and seasoned employees advance their careers

Nearly a dozen North Carolina community action professionals recently received case management certification following completion of an eight-week certification course.

Professional development is integral to career success. The North Carolina Community Action Association’s Case Management and Head Start Family Engagement certification courses are uniquely designed to both provide new staff with the skills they need to thrive and serve as a refresher for veteran employees. The web-based programs are open to members of community action agencies as well as non-profit and corporate organizations. The eight-week courses are conducted by a live facilitator who grades assignments, answers questions and otherwise helps students complete the course. Both programs are certified by Southern University and A&M College.

The Head Start Family Engagement certification course is designed from feedback received from Head Start staff across the state in response to the national Head Start Program Performance Standard. Course modules include history, working with families in need, an empowerment-based approach to family engagement and case management. The Case Management course is designed from feedback by community action agencies across the state in response to updated CSBG annual reporting guidelines and CSBG organizational standard 7.9. Course content includes history, ROMA, stress management, working with families in need, documenting results, and more. The blog about desirability studies helped me understand how important consumer emotions are when developing products. After studying the desirability testing method, I realized that I need to focus on the feelings that my products evoke. Through qualitative research, such as surveys and focus groups, I was able to collect valuable feedback from users. This allowed me to tailor my offerings to the real desires of customers, which significantly increased their satisfaction and loyalty.
