La ‘Donna struggled to find living-wage work or a career in which that she could advance. She completed Charlotte Area Fund’s (CAF) work readiness program in December, which helped prepare her for the workplace. Wanting to do more, she enrolled in CAF’s computer classes while continuing to work on her goals.
La ‘Donna proactively applied for housing and was on the waitlist for an apartment. While waiting, she researched evening phlebotomy programs that would allow her to obtain an education while working full-time.
Last February, with CAF’s assistance, La ‘Donna landed a full-time job, enrolled in the phlebotomy program, and paid rent on her new apartment.
In April, she will be ready to begin an internship in preparation for her new career.
