One powerful technique case managers can utilize in daily work is motivational interviewing. By understanding and implementing basic motivational interviewing techniques (i.e., asking the right questions, reflective listening, empathy vs. sympathy, etc.), case managers can better inspire clients to achieve their goals.

Meet the Facilitators

Ms. Marie Angelina Huggins is a 4th-year doctoral candidate at UNC Charlotte in the Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral program. She is also a two-time graduate of North Carolina State University, earning both her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters of Education in Counselor Education. She is currently a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate (LPCA), National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF). Ms. Huggin’s primary research and clinical work revolve around serving at-risk undergraduate students and individuals overcoming addiction.

Mr. Andrew Howland Fish is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) working in private practice at Dogwood Counseling in Charlotte, NC. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Elon University and a Masters in Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill. With more than 7 years of experience in the mental health field, his work is grounded in several theoretical frameworks including Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. Mr. Fish specializes in empowering clients to be their best selves and developing the skills needed to overcome the stresses of daily life.
