Here at
the North Carolina Community Action Association, we are very
proud of the fact that the lives of hundreds of thousands
of low income and disadvantaged citizens in our state have
been improved through Community Action programs over the past
three and one-half decades.
Everyone
can participate in Community Action for it is the combined
endeavor of all interested citizens to raise the standard of
living for the people in their community. A major goal Community Action strives
for is Community Change. Our
aim is to broaden economical and social horizons for
individuals and communities with the community working
with us to provide opportunities people might take advantage
of. Our emphasis is on that segment of the population referred
to as disadvantaged, unemployed, underemployed, those who
lack the necessary education or job skills, those who suffer
mental or physical handicaps and those who are disenfranchised
due to age.
It is the job
of Community Action Agencies to assist low-income citizens
in overcoming
obstacles on the road to self-sufficiency. Community action
is the only human service organization whose mission incorporates
community change as part of its scope of work. This process
benefits the whole of society and in the end makes better
living conditions for all citizens of the community.
NCCAA
seeks to serve as an advocate for the poor in North Carolina
at all levels of government insuring their participation in the decision making process as well. We are
involved with the U.S. Congress, the N.C. General Assembly
and serve on various committees that impact state and community
conditions. We strongly encourage you to seek out the
Community Action Agency in your area by Helping People. Changing Lives.
